VOTE: Southern California Boys Athlete of the Week, October 22

Each week, publications from the Southern California News Groups 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) make a choice the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each athlete is then entered into the general Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Click on the newspaper hyperlinks below the athlete’s name to read about their efficiency from ultimate week, and then vote for who you assume merits the top honor.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple occasions. Voting ends at the hours of darkness, however ultimate totals aren’t all the time right away mirrored due to processing.

Cameron Goods, Irvine: He rushed for 256 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries in the Vaqueros’ 47-28 win over Dana Hills in a Pacific Hills League game. Goods (5-11, 190) this season has rushed for 1,038 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is averaging 8.3 yards a carry. Goods has surpassed 100 yards rushing in all eight games for Irvine (8-0 overall), which is No. 25 in the Orange County top 25.

Floyd Chalk, Alemany: Chalk was unstoppable in Alemany’s 45-35 win over Bishop Amat, rushing for 260 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Chalk’s efforts were part of a 510-yard running performance for the Warriors. Senior teammate Jaylen Thompson contributed 160 yards and a touchdown.

Jeremiah Claiborne, Citrus Valley: Claiborne rushed for a career-high 253 yards on 15 carries and matched his career-high with three touchdowns as the Blackhawks defeated Yucaipa 59-14 in a Citrus Belt League game. Claiborne smashed his previous best of 156 rushing yards in a game. He has rushed for 1,000 yards and scored 13 touchdowns this season. Claiborne has played 12 varsity games in his career and has topped the 100-yard mark nine times.

Angelo Godoy, La Salle: Godoy had a big night for the Lancers, as he rushed for 222 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 33-14 win over Mary Star of the Sea. The career-high performance for Godoy included a 99-yard touchdown run. It was the first win of the season for La Salle.

Brayden Downen, (*22*): The 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback amassed 381 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-19 victory over Wilson. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 329 yards and two scores — the second a 73-yard strike to Devon Bush with about 4 minutes to go — and rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown. He has passed for 1,790 yards and 11 TDs this season and run for 327 yards and six scores.

Robert Sarmiento, San Pedro: Sarmiento set a new school record with four touchdown receptions in a game in Friday’s 69-0 win over Gardena. Sarmiento also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving him five touches and five touchdowns in the game.
