All that’s required to make the simple dessert is a pack of the doughnuts from the Krispy Kreme store or 7-Eleven and a waffle press.

‘Press your doughnuts until they’re as crispy, flat and golden as you so desire, carefully remove your waffle doughnuts with utensils (the glaze can get really hot!) and enjoy,’ the brand wrote on Facebook alongside a snap of the maple-slathered dessert.

While the idea was met with thousands of positive comments, others were less inclined to try the idea for themselves.

‘I’ve never seen someone harm a doughnut in such an atrocious way,’ one man wrote.

‘Cleaning of the machine will be a nightmare,’ another added.

Others suggested topping the waffles with maple bacon, maple syrup, chocolate sauce and/or vanilla ice cream to take it to the next level.
